Joining SEO data across exports: a guide for SEO specialists

By the Analistable team · Updated · 3 min read

SEO work is mostly joining exports: Search Console queries to GA4 landing pages, rankings to clicks, one date range to another. The join key is nearly always a URL or a query, and most of the effort goes into normalising those keys. Analistable loads the exports (or connects GA4 and Search Console directly) and answers questions across them in your browser.

The multi-sheet jobs SEO specialists actually do

Search Console tells you about impressions and clicks, GA4 tells you what happened after the click, and your rank tracker and crawler each hold a third and fourth view. None of them share a dashboard, so most audits start with four exports and a join.

  • Clicks vs sessions by page: join Search Console pages to GA4 landing pages to see which pages earn clicks but lose engagement.
  • Period-over-period decline: compare two Search Console date ranges to find pages and queries losing clicks.
  • Rankings vs reality: match a rank tracker export to Search Console queries to see where tracked positions do not turn into clicks.
  • Multi-site or migration checks: blend properties or old and new URL lists to confirm traffic moved where it should.
  • Paid and organic overlap: join Google Ads search terms to organic queries to find terms you pay for and already rank for.

Most failed SEO joins are key problems: full URLs vs paths, trailing slashes, query strings and mixed case. Strip them to one canonical form in both files before joining.

How Analistable helps

You can connect GA4 and Search Console with your own Google account, or drop in CSV exports from any tool. The data is loaded into a database inside your browser, and you ask questions such as "which pages lost more than 30% of clicks between these two ranges, and what was their GA4 engagement rate?". The AI writes read-only SQL that you can inspect; nothing is written back to your properties or files, and rows are not stored on our servers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to export from Search Console, or can I connect it?
Either works. Connecting with your Google account pulls reports server-side with your permission; exports are useful for tools Analistable does not connect to, such as rank trackers and crawlers.
Why do Search Console clicks and GA4 sessions never match?
They measure different things: a click is recorded by Google, a session by your analytics tag after consent and page load. Compare trends and ratios per page rather than expecting equal numbers.
Can it handle more than Search Console's 1,000-row UI export?
Yes. The connected report and larger CSV exports load into the in-browser database, which handles hundreds of thousands of rows on a typical laptop.
